Movable Seating for a Creative Campus
Set beneath the iconic “tabletop” of the Rosalie Sharp Centre for Design, the renewed Butterfield Park, designed by PFS Studio, is OCAD University’s outdoor living room—an everyday hub for eating, meeting, and making ideas happen. OCAD U reached out to Maglin to outfit the plaza with ARIES Café Chairs, Battery Collection Tables, and 600 Series Waste & Recycling containers: durable, easy to maintain, and ready for constant campus use.
How it’s used: Midday in summer, Battery Tables and ARIES Café Chairs fill with small groups eating and studying, while others read or work solo. People pass through, pause with coffees, and bring dogs; a wheelchair user sits comfortably at table height. The Sharp Centre provides welcome shade, and 600 Series units keep the plaza tidy without visual clutter.
Why it works: Bright, movable seating invites self-organization—push chairs together for a chat or pull one aside for focus. Durable, easy-to-maintain pieces handle heavy daily use and support accessibility across the site. The color and scale complement the mural and architecture, making the plaza legible, lively, and low-maintenance.
