Since 1869, the City of Lincoln has been home to the University of Nebraska. Originally built for technical and agricultural studies, the university now offers more than 50 specialized degree choices.

In the Spring of 2003, the new Van Brunt Visitors Center and Mary Riepma Ross Media Art Center opened offering two state-of-the-art auditoriums, both designated for film and video screenings as well as offices for staff, a research library and a film and video archive. As part of the new construction the entire campus also gained a number of new seating amenities.

Surrounding the exterior of the Visitor Center and Ross Media Art Center, Maglin's MLB400W benches grace the entrance way to the buildings. The MLB400W benches were donated through the University Foundation as a memorial.
The MLB400W is the standard bench used throughout the campus. The benches have been placed in the Buntain Memorial Garden, at Kauffman Center overlooking the main quad, in Donaldson Garden and the Agricultural Courtyard. The courtyard is a small space designed to showcase historic class gifts and create multiple seating areas in the heart of the East Campus.

"We needed a bench that would be resistant to vandalism, provide comfortable seating and had a timeless design. The Maglin bench chosen combines a steel frame and wood seat and back which create a comfortable seating solution that is less susceptible to vandals than an all wood bench." - Emily Casper of the University of Nebraska Landscape Services. The MLB400W is used on all new projects and donor benches.
