Located on the Eastern Coast of Canada, the province of Newfoundland has quickly distinguished itself as Canada's fastest growing tourism destination showing a dramatic 37% increase in the past five years.
Due to the continued expansion of the manufacturing industry into areas such as mills and brickyards, Newfoundland's population has also increased significantly. Today, manufacturing is one of the fastest growing sectors of the Newfoundland economy.
Mount Pearl, located on the northeast Avalon Peninsula, is a community of over 26,000 people and is the second largest city in Newfoundland and Labrador. It is home to 60 manufacturing firms and 70 construction firms. In the 1930's and 1940's horse racing was a prominent attraction for high society from nearby St. John's, the capital of the province. From this recreational pastime, Mount Pearl became a popular summer resort location. Increased population during the summer months led to increased population year round and eventual residential and industrial development.
