The City of Red Deer was named the Cultural Capital of Canada for 2003-2004 by Heritage Canada
The City of Red Deer was named after the river that ran through it. The Red Deer River was important to the First Peoples of Central Alberta.
In 1901 Red Deer was incorporated as a town, the population stood at 343. By 1913, when Red Deer was incorporated as a city, the population had jumped to nearly 2800.
Currently, Red Deer is a very modern city with a population approaching 90,000. It has excellent recreational facilities, a college, a large regional health care centre and extensive convention and exhibition facilities. In addition to the three features of Historic Downtown, Riverlands and Railyards, Greater Downtown includes a number of residential and mixed use areas with strong histories and healthy futures.
Local citizens, explorers and historians have claimed sightings of Ghosts in Red Deer's Downtown. The Ghost Project depicts the history of the community and offers audiences one of the largest life-size bronze sculpture collections in Canada. The Ghost sculptures are forever growing in popularity and attract thousands of inquisitive travelers every year.
Maglin Site Furniture has been chosen as the standard for site furnishings in the City of Red Deer. As pictured above, Dr. Leonard Gaetz sits on Maglin's MLB300BM bench on Gaetz Avenue. Throughout the city a variety of Maglin products can be seen lining the streets and parks. Some of the standard products Red Deer uses are: MBR202 Bike Rack, MLWR200-32 Trash Container, MLAU101 Side Ash Receptacle, MLP200 Planters, MLB300BM Benches and MLB300M Benches. Maglin has built a strong business relationship with the city for nearly three years and growing.
